Ray brings with
him over forty years of teaching experience. He has taught
all ages with a particular emphasis on French and Phys Ed.
Ray's natural enthusiasm and energy has been a great plus
for the club for the last three seasons.

Caitie Lawrence

Caitie has taught sailing for four years. She learned to sail at the old club and continued on to achieve her Bronze V and Instructor levels I and II. Caitie just completed her second year at Ryerson University in the Fashion Communication program. She loves to play volleyball, swim, and play tennis! Caitie is looking forward to spending the summer at the lake!

has just finished his degree in history and Russian at the University of Victoria. Max's sailing levels from beginner White Sail to Bronze IV were all completed at the Zig Zag Yacht Club. This will be Max's fifth year teaching at Zig Zag.

the prestigious Fogh Marine Sportsmanship Award with sister,Maddie
Ferguson, at Canadian Youth Championsip at Kingston.

–Placed 3rd at the Canadian Youth Championships in a 29er
with skip, Maddie Ferguson,
_ MSA's Best 19 & Under Female
Sailor of the Year with Maddie as skip.
2005
– Placed 1st at the Canadian Youth Championships in the Female
420 boat class.
Celeste is presently studying at the University of Western Ontario
-She is one of six representatives of Canada for the Youth Leaders International travelling to Washington D.C. in 2007 for leadership conferences. 2008 will take her to Prague for another symposium and in 2009 she will be representing Canada again in London, England.
-Celeste is also involved with Youth to Youth, a youth mentorship program helping inner city children learn to read.
-Celeste also volunteers her time at the Health Sciences Centre. She is active in Team Sports with her school.
- Celeste loves to race in a 29er because she finds it "exhilirating".
Leigh Mackenzie - Sailing Instructor

Leigh has been sailing at Zig Zag Yacht Club for 9 years, and this will be her fifth year as an instructor. Leigh loves the lake and is very excited to be back teaching. Leigh is currently attending the University of Western Ontario completing a double major in political science and global development. In her spare time Leigh enjoys waterskiing, running, and sampling Cornelia Bean teas.

Jack started sailing when he was 8 years old and has participated in many Zig Zag Regattas. Jack is currently finishing grade 12 at St. John's Ravenscourt and will be going to the University of Manitoba in the fall to study engineering. When he is not sailing he enjoys playing tennis, wakeboarding, cliff jumping and making s'mores. This will be Jack's third year teaching at Zig Zag!

Tom has been sailing for 6 years and this will be his first year teaching at Zig Zag. He is going into grade 12 at St. John's Ravenscourt School. In his spare time Tom likes to play hockey, rugby, and he debates.

Kacey has spent her entire life around boats and out on the water, starting her own sailing lessons around 8 years old at ZZYC. She continued to work at her levels, sailing at both ZZYC and KYC in her hometown Kingston, Onatrio, achieving her Bronze V level in 2008. Prior to this she was lucky enough to have had a chance to travel with the Volvo Ocean Race in 2005/06. Kacey has enjoyed her racing experiences at ZZYC both during the RACE camp run by Team Manitoba and at the clubs different regattas. In addition to sailing, Kacey has worked to become a Lifeguard and a swimming instructor, as well as participating in her community’s elite choral society, Cantabile. She really looks forward to putting her White Sail Coaching Level to good use this summer, in the hope of providing new sailors with experiences as positive as hers!

Julia is 17 years old and going into grade 12 at St. Mary's Academy in Winnipeg. She has been sailing since she was 8 and it is her favorite thing to do in the summer! She has attained Level I in sailing instruction, and was an assistant instructor last summer. Besides sailing, she loves running, dancing, and playing tennis!

Bill Serbin

Bill Serbin, a physical education teacher at John de Graff School, was honored with Tennis Manitoba’s first-ever “Tennis Champion” award in 2005 at the Annual General Meeting held at the Winnipeg Winter Club. Bill, a competitive player, teaching pro and member of the Wilson Tennis Advisory Board, was recognized for his lifetime of dedication to the organization of tennis programs in schools, introducing young people to the game through what he calls Tennis Futures clinics and more recent programs offering aboriginal youth an introduction to the game of tennis.
Bill has coached tennis for more than 20 years in Manitoba, covering the spectrum from grassroots to high performance development. Under his leadership the Tennis Futures program has been responsible for introducing the sport to more than 400 children per year at the clinics held every May.
