Hamel

Ray brings with
him over forty years of teaching experience. He has taught
all ages with a particular emphasis on French and Phys Ed.
Ray's natural enthusiasm and energy has been a great plus
for the club for the last three seasons.

Laura Wiebe

Laura has taught sailing for four years. She learned to sail at the old club and continued on to achieve her Bronze V and Green Instructor levels. She was in charge of the Mini Sail program last year. She has also helped out with the Summer Fun Program and has volunteered at Movie Nights, Wine and Cheese events and worked at the Annual Dinner Dance since she began working at Zig Zag. She is hoping to spend some time in the 29er and continue to help out with Wednesday Afternoon Races this summer.
Laura just completed her second year in the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary on an entrance scholarship. She achieved her gold level of the Duke of Edinburgh Award in 2006. She enjoys playing tennis, traveling and both downhill and waterskiing. She is looking forward to spending the summer at the lake!

and is just starting her fifth year teaching at Zig Zag.

Chris
has graduated from St john's-Ravenscourt and is going off to Univercity of Western Ontario to pursue a commerce degree.Chris has completed his second year
as an instructor at ZZYC as well as sailing with the Manitoba
Sailing team.

Celeste is presently in grade 11 at St John's-Ravenscourt.
-She is one of six representatives of Canada for the Youth Leaders International travelling to Washington D.C. in 2007 for leadership conferences. 2008 will take her to Prague for another symposium and in 2009 she will be representing Canada again in London, England.
-Celeste is also involved with Youth to Youth, a youth mentorship program helping inner city children learn to read.
-Celeste also volunteers her time at the Health Sciences Centre. She is active in Team Sports with her school.
- Celeste loves to race in a 29er because she finds it "exhilirating".
Caitie

Caitie has been sailing since she was eight years old and is just starting her second year teaching at ZigZag. This year she received an award for Athletic Commitment and Dedication at her school and will be the head of the Athletic Council at St. Mary's Academy where she will be returning in the fall to complete grade twelve. Caitie has worked with kids as a peer tutor, camp counsellor, and a volunteer at her old daycare. She loves to play any sports, especially volleyball, loves the lake and sailing! Caitie is looking forward to a great summer of sailing at the lake!
Leigh

Leigh has been sailing at Zig Zag Yacht Club for 9 years, and this will be her second year as an instructor. Leigh loves the lake and is very excited to be back teaching. Leigh attends St. Mary’s Academy, where she will be returning for her grade 12 year. As co-president of her grade 11 class, and member of the senior competitive debating team, Leigh is an active member of her school community. This fall Leigh will be busy as co-head of the first St. Mary’s Academy Green Team, and she is also looking forward to Cancer Care’s “Challenge For Life”, which she is raising funds for as a participant in the walk this September. In her spare time Leigh enjoys waterskiing, running, watching 24, and sampling Cornelia Bean teas.
Max Hall- Sailing Instructor

Max
has just finished his second year studying at the University of Victoria, where he is working on completing a history degree. He is an active member of the Uvic Intercollegiate Sailing Race Team and competes year round. Max's sailing levels from beginner White Sail to Bronze IV were all completed at the Zig Zag Yacht Club. This will be Max's second year teaching at Zig Zag.

Fun Instructors
Summer Fun Head Instructor: Holly Penman

Holly Penman has worked at Summer Fun for 5 years. She loves kids, and is enrolled in the Faculty of Education at the University of Winnipeg in hopes of becoming an Elementary School Teacher.
Some of Holly’s interests include hockey, visual arts, volunteering at Mulvey School, and visiting an Orphanage in the Dominican Republic.
Holly looks forward to a great summer at the Zig Zag Yacht Club.

Bill Serbin

Bill Serbin, a physical education teacher at John de Graff School, was honored with Tennis Manitoba’s first-ever “Tennis Champion” award in 2005 at the Annual General Meeting held at the Winnipeg Winter Club. Bill, a competitive player, teaching pro and member of the Wilson Tennis Advisory Board, was recognized for his lifetime of dedication to the organization of tennis programs in schools, introducing young people to the game through what he calls Tennis Futures clinics and more recent programs offering aboriginal youth an introduction to the game of tennis.
Bill has coached tennis for more than 20 years in Manitoba, covering the spectrum from grassroots to high performance development. Under his leadership the Tennis Futures program has been responsible for introducing the sport to more than 400 children per year at the clinics held every May.
