Job Title:                    Racing Lead

Program:                    Sailing Program

Minimum Age:          17 years old as of June 30, 2012

 

Purpose:                     To develop the racing skills of club sailors

 

Tasks:

  • Attendance at the Commodores Reception, Family BBQ, ZZYC Championship Race, June and August boat unpacking and storage days.
  • Place and return/assist with markers buoys specifically for racing (during day sessions, evening, weekends).
  • Daily/weekly completion of Racer History Sheet
  • Provide sailing instruction from dock/shore and instruction boat.
  • Gather information and details to parent concerns/comments and report to Head Sailing Instructor.
  • Assist in docking/landing of sailboats and powerboats to ZZYC.
  • Create a Race Team from within Learn To Sail
  • Initiate after hours sailing practice (Tuesday/Thursday nights)
  • Prepare/develop a racing lesson to be delivered during 30 to 60 mins portion of LTS lesson.
  • Track all ZZYC sailor race records (boat type, crew, placing).
  • Post Race records and Up to Date Point Standings of ZZYC Racers in Club house and on website
  • Awards at Family BBQ for Racer of the year.
  • Instruct Learn to Sail Instructors in Race Handicapping Race results.
  • Promote racing where possible
  • Initiate Instructor/Student racing
  • Promote Interclub races with sailing clubs within MSA.

 

Experience/Prerequisites/Training:

  • Minimum one year instructing at White Sail Level
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC)
  • CYA Silver Sail Level Certificate
  • Emergency First Aid Award (St. John’s Ambulance course) (current)
  • Coach Boat Safety Course
  • Respect In Sport course
  • CYA Race Assist Course
  • CYA High Performance Course
  • Valid Drivers License

 

Reports to:                 Head Sailing Instructor

 

Measures of Performance:  Number of Racers/year, # of race participants,

 

Typical Work week (not including weekend overtime)

Monday – 10:00 pm to 4:00 pm = 4 hours

Tuesday – 10:00 am to 4:00 pm = 6 hours

Wednesday – 10:00 am to 8:00 pm = 10 hours

Thursday – 10:00 am to 4:00 pm = 6 hours

Friday – 10:00 pm to 4:00 pm = 6 hours

Weekend = 6 Hours
